Requesting feedback on some small GUI changes |

Hello everybody. I need some feedback and testing on some small GUI changes I made.
The first change is pretty obvious and needs some checking. As I'm sure some of you have noticed, I was trying to get a better indicating of Out Of Combat mode into the game using the Armor/Shield rings and I was having issues with the flickering of it. I finally got it working correctly so please go into beta and try to find any issues with it.
The second change is a minor change but should help out immensely for some players. When you right click on a gadget to get its firing arc and firing range, their will now be white lines drawn at the 25%, 50%, and 75% maximum range locations. I did some testing in my local server and it doesn't appear to have any issues with it but I would like others to look at it as well and see if it does anything wonky on their side.
Again, any comments or criticisms of these are fully welcome. Please try to stay on topic as well.

How about a minimum range, for missles...or maybe just make the red arc START at the minimum distance.
Jut a thought. I may test later if I get a chance.

I don't know if that is possible but I will look into it

The OOC indicator works as intended. I still don't understand why all the devs are so opposed to the simple OOC timer we had in the upper right hand corner.
As for the white lines on the firing arcs, I don't see them.

It all seems to be working fine, clicking on weapons shows the red arcs with white lines in them. OOC indicator is also pretty clear as long as you're zoomed in close enough to clearly see the armor/shield display.

I still think the OOC timer was awesome. Seriously, the little system thing is...lame.
Going to test beta in the evening.

Now all we need is a proper HUD in the main screen.

Sounds great Frob. I'll hop in and test a lil later if I have the time.
BTW, is this range overlay able to be toggled on and off?

Sometimes the white ring disappears from the screen although nothing attacks me nor I shoot anything.
White is difficult to see, indeed. You can bring a poll of colour so that people can pick the best colour they can easily detect in game for the OOC ring.
I like the 25%, 50% and 75% ring. [ This Message was edited by: chlorophyll on 2012-08-12 04:56 ]

the white range arcs are working nicely
as for the ooc flickering, it is synchronised to the flickering of the ship with the arc with the least rings.
ship A with 4 shield rings and 2 ooc rings (1 2 3 4 ooc1 ooc2)
ship B with 2 shield rings and 2 ooc rings (1 2 ooc1 ooc2)
flickering pattern of A and B, both near each other and in OOC mode -
pattern of A - 1 2 ooc1 ooc2 (empty)
pattern of B - 1 2 3 4 ooc1
A and B, A has shields off
pattern of A - ooc1 ooc2 (empty)
pattern of B - 1 2 3
A and B, B has shields off
pattern of A - 1 2 ooc1
pattern of B - ooc1 ooc2 (empty)
A and B, B has shields off and is not in OOC mode
pattern of A - empty
pattern of B - empty
so, the problem is, if a ship is not in OOC mode, then the flickering wont show for any allied ship (whether ooc or not) in the area or targeting the ship. same for enemy ships.
not checked whether this can happen differently on different clients (probably it does, like the flash effect)

Can the first change also be appiled to the ECM/ECCM To show a visual of electronic warfare range, This would be helpful as well.
The secound change of the "OOC" is great but i agree with makeing it a different color. Something more identifiable/stand's out.

I notice that sometime the rings are on-off like LED lights.
Example: when the ship starts to hit or to be hit
1st second: __ G2 G3 G4 W1 W2
2nd second: G1 _ G3 G4 W1 W2
3rd second: G1 G2 __ G4 W1 W2
4th second: G1 G2 G3 __ W1 W2
5th second: G1 G2 G3 G4 __ W2
6th second: G1 G2 G3 G4 W1 __
7th second: G1 G2 G3 G4 __ __
legend: G = green ring, W = white ring, _ = hidden/invisible ring
Is this intentional? [ This Message was edited by: chlorophyll on 2012-08-12 12:58 ]

Not at the moment. Does it need to be toggable?

It's probably possible, yeah. I'll see if I'm allowed to do that

Any suggestions for a possible ring color? I thought white stood out enough, but i'm up for any suggestions

They should go in a pattern starting from the most inner ring to the most outer ring
@Raje: I need to see in-game what you're talking about, but I think I understand what you're saying .
